SAMAKEY: YAWANAWÁ SPIRTUAL DIET

August 24 to September 22

Nipëihu Sanctuary • Bahia, Brazil.

A one-month immersion into discipline, silence, and direct relationship with spirit.

The dieta

The dieta, or Samakey, is one of the most important and sacred paths of study within the Yawanawá tradition.

It is not a retreat.
It is a disciplined spiritual process.

Over the course of one month, you enter into a contained environment guided by Indigenous spiritual leadership, where your focus turns inward and your relationship with the natural and spiritual world deepens.

Through specific food guidelines, environmental restrictions, and daily spiritual practice, the body begins to purify, the mind becomes quieter, and the senses become more attuned.

This process is not about comfort or escape.
It is about refinement.

A dieta asks for presence.
It asks for discipline.
It asks for a willingness to meet yourself without distraction.

Within this space, you are supported through prayer, chants, teachings, and direct relationship with the plants—opening a deeper level of listening, perception, and inner clarity.

This is a path that has been carried for generations.

It is entered with respect.
And walked with intention.

Purpose of the Dieta

The dieta is a spiritual initiation.  A lived study in self authority.

You enter this month to strengthen your spirit.
To firm your willpower.
To sharpen your focus.
To deepen your devotion.
To meet your own truth.

Your intention becomes the foundation of the entire process.

Some come to heal physical illness.

Some come to open the voice and embody truth.

Some come to learn the chants and prayers.

Some come to release blocks they have carried for years.

Some come to remember what they are made of.

In this path, nothing is handed to you.

You achieve your objectives through consistency, prayer, challenge, and revelation.

What you receive becomes yours.

And no one can take it away.

The Foundation

During the dieta you follow a traditional spiritual discipline, which may include:

No sweets.

No red meat.

No intimate relationships.

Not regular water.

Instead, you drink Caiçuma, a sacred drink made from yucca.

In the village, this yucca is known as Macaxeira.

This is part of the spiritual technology.

You weaken the physical body in order to strengthen the spirit.

We also highly recommend no phone.
This path asks for presence. Simplicity. Focus.
If you absolutely need access, we can support you in a way that still respects the dieta.

The first day begins in complete silence.

The Opening of the Dieta

The dieta begins with a sacred preparation guided by a healer who has walked deep spiritual study and year long initiation.

You will share your intention.
Your reason. Your why.

A clay pot is prepared for you through prayer, holding the Caiçuma within it.
This begins the spiritual relationship between your intention, the medicine, and the path ahead.

From that moment forward, you are walking with devotion.

Daily Practice and Study

You will share your intention.
Your reason. Your why.

From that moment forward, you are walking with devotion.

This month is both self study and guided transformation.

You rise with the sun.
You pray at sunrise and again at sunset.

You will learn and practice the Ruawakî, the affirmative prayer in the Yawanawá language.
A prayer that strengthens your spirit and anchors your path.

Throughout the month, you will study:

Traditional chants and Saiti.

Prayers and spiritual teachings.

Sacred wisdom stories known as Shenipahu.

The deeper meaning behind the medicines and why they are used.

These stories carry lessons.
They shape your understanding.
They guide you back into alignment.
